Re-ELECT
Council Member Position 3
Federal Way, WA – May 3, 2023 – Susan Honda today announced her candidacy for re-election to the Federal Way City Council Position #3. Honda was first elected to the council in 2011 and has served the people of Federal Way with integrity and courage. “I am proud of the work I have done on the council over the past 12 years,” said Honda.
Honda was first elected in November 2011 and has served the people of Federal Way with Integrity and Courage. Honda is involved in planning the Downtown re-development, bringing housing for all and job creation in Federal Way. She believes we need to maintain existing parks, and plan for new parks and recreational spaces. Honda supports the Police Department and Municipal Court.
Parks and open spaces are vital to the increase of population in Federal Way. Honda voted to keep the Steel Lake Annex intact and not used for the Parks & Public Works Maintenance Yard. She has supported efforts to keep Camp Kilworth, an Environmental Education Preserve. Honda has led the fight to have Sound Transit select the Midway Landfill as the OMF site and not the Christian Faith Center location. The Midway Landfill has the least impact on Federal Way businesses, landowners and residents,” said Honda.
The recent ship fire on the Tacoma Tide flats is an example of Honda’s concern for Public Safety. “If something happens there, the prevailing winds will affect Federal Way residents more than Tacoma” said Honda. Federal Way residents nearby were advised, by Federal Way Emergency Management, to shelter in place while the boat burned and smoldered for a week. Honda supports the added Police Officers that serve and protect our residents. She serves on the Domestic Violence Task Force for Federal Way and King County.
“The next City Council will make long lasting decisions about our downtown. It is imperative that your council members know the history, understand the nuances, implications, and make the hard decisions in the best interest of Federal Way” said Honda.
Honda is a fixture supporting community events like; New business Grand Openings & Ribbon Cuttings, Jet Cities Chorus Sweetie Pie Social, National Little League Opening Day, Touch-a-Truck, Hooked on Fishing, Make Music Federal Way, Red, White and Blues 4th of July, The Farmers Market, Desna Cup, National Night Out, FUSION Gala, Boys & Girls Club Back to School, Federal Way Chamber of Commerce Gala, Jingle Bell Brunch, Rosebud Children’s Theater Conservatory and many more.
“I am running for re-election because I believe that Federal Way is a great place to live, work, and raise a family, and I want to continue to work hard to make it even better.”
Honda has a long history of public service. She served on the Federal Way Arts and Diversity Commissions for six years and was elected to the council in 2011. Since then, she has served and chaired the council’s Parks, Recreation, Human Services & Public Safety Committee, the Land Use and Transportation Committee, and the Finance and Economic Development, Regional Affairs Committee.
In addition to her work on the council, Honda is also active in the community. Honda advises the Federal Way Senior Commission, is on the Federal Way Downtown Ad Hoc Committee, and the Federal Way Broadband Advisory Task Force.
She is also a member of:
· King County Board of Health, Regional Transit Committee, and the South King County Transportation Board.
Honda has a deep commitment to the Federal Way Community serving:

“I am committed to working with all members of the community to build a better future for Federal Way,” said Honda. “I believe that we can make Federal Way a city where everyone has
a chance to succeed. I am asking for your vote, so that I can continue to work hard for our community.”
